Simone employed a broad range of musical styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop. Born in North Carolina, the sixth child of a preacher, Waymon aspired to be a concert pianist. With the help of a few ers in her hometown of Tryon, North Carolina, she enrolled in the Juilliard School of Music in New York. Waymon then applied for a scholarship to study at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she was denied despite a well-received audition. Waymon became fully convinced this rejection had been entirely due to racial discrimination. Years later, two days before her death, the Curtis Institute of Music bestowed on her an honorary degree. To make a living, Eunice Waymon changed her name to "Nina Simone". The change related to her need to disguise herself from family , having chosen to play "the devil's music" or "cocktail piano" at a nightclub in Atlantic City. She was told in the nightclub that she would have to sing to her own accompaniment, and this effectively launched her career as a jazz vocalist. Simone recorded more than 40 albums, mostly between 1958, when she made her debut with Little Girl Blue, and 1974. She had a hit in the United States in 1958 with "I Loves You, Porgy". Simone's musical style fused gospel and pop with classical music, in particular Johann Sebastian Bach, and accompanied expressive, jazz-like singing in her contralto voice

The four friends Heiko Maile, Oliver Kreyssig, Marcus Meyn and Martin Kähling (who left the band in 1984) founded the band "Lizenenced Technology" in 1983. Drawing on inspiration from the song of the same name by the Japanese group "Yellow Magic Orchestra," the band changed their name to "Camouflage." The first local live appearance took place in 1984. One year later they recorded two demo cassettes in their studio and sent these cassettes to several record companies. In 1986 one of these tapes was submitted for a talent search conducted by the Hessischen Rundfunk (Hessen Radio). Camouflage was awarded the first place and the small Frankfurt record label "Westside" became aware of the band. The song "The Great Commandment," was reworked, newly recorded and presented to the larger record companies. Suddenly several firms expressed interest and after careful consideration the band signed with Metronome.

Merrill Nisker (born 11 November 1966), better known by her stage name Peaches, is a Canadian electroclash musician and producer. Born in Ontario, Peaches began her musical career in the 1990s as part of a folk trio, Mermaid Cafe. In 1995, she established a rock band, the Shit. That year she also released her first solo album, Fancypants Hoodlum. After moving to Berlin, , she was signed to the Kitty-Yo label and released her second album, The Teaches of Peaches (2000). Touring as the opening act for bands like Marilyn Manson and Queens of the Stone Age, she subsequently released her third album, Fatherfucker (2003). Peaches' songs have been featured in movies such as Mean Girls, Waiting..., Jackass Number Two, My Little Eye, Drive Angry, and Lost in Translation. Her music has also been featured on television shows such as Orphan Black, Lost Girl, The L Word, South Park, Skam, The Handmaid's Tale, 30 Rock, True Blood, Fresh Meat, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, The Boys, Sex Education, and Letterkenny, and has been used for the promotion of Dirt. Peaches has performed guest vocals on several songs, including "Oh My God" from Pink's album Try This, "We Don't Play Guitars" from Chicks on Speed's album 99 Cents, "My Girls" from Christina Aguilera's 2010 album Bionic (produced by — and co-written with — Le Tigre), and "Scare Me" from Major Lazer's 2013 album Free the Universe (also featuring Timberlee).

Born April 22, 1921 in Regla (Havana), Cuba. Died November, 7, 2020 in New York, USA. He started his career as a percussionist for various groups in Havana, performing at the nightclubs and radio stations. He moved to New York in 1946 and started recording with Machito and Dizzy Gillespie. During 1953-1954 he was in the Billy Taylor quartet and in 1954 he performed and recorded with Stan Kenton. He also enjoyed some hits during the disco era, most notably with his cover of Babatunde Olatunji's classic "Jingo", which he recorded for Salsoul Records.

New Beat was often characterized by a relatively slow beat incorporating samples, synths and hypnotic bass lines. There's not a lot of "pure" New Beat music; it was always a fusion genre, constantly incorporating the sounds of other popular dance music of its era, including synth-pop, EBM/industrial dance, electro, house, acid house, and to a lesser extent, Detroit techno. New Beat had a significant, reciprocal influence on the stabby, buzzy "rave" aesthetic in techno music. Influences from New Beat evolved into the foundation of trance music (e.g. Age of Love's "The Age of Love" and Revelation's "First Power"/"Synth-It"). New Beat faded into history as its artists increasingly converted to making higher-tempo music more strongly associated with techno or trance. In between of New Beat and Belgium Techno around 1989 there was Hard Beat, also named Skizzo but mostly used is the term Hard Beat for that transition sound of 1988 New Beat to 1990 Belgium Techno sound.
