FTN Episode 518 – Did the New Stuff Change Your List? – little tweaks
Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
The game is in a good spot right now. There are a few outliers but was it wide spread? Did we need huge overhauls? We don’t think so and the designers didn’t seem to think so either. We got some nudges here and there was was it enough? Too much? I guess it depends on what army you play. Hey folks, Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned. If it is anywhere within your ability to us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here. The show is mostly about the changes this week. It looks like Thousand Sons and Drukari might have been hit the most. The Dark Eldar is a bit of a head scratcher but maybe they are seeing stuff we don’t. I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something! There may be some nice winners here depending on who you ask. We sort of think that now that some of the ‘big lists’ might have been toned down just a little the ecosystem will allow some of those lists on the cusps to feel more powerful and maybe dial up their wins a little. We love it when change hits the game like this. We talk about Guard a little bit as well and they were great before the changes and hardly got apart from Bullgryn. A lot of lists weren’t running them anyway… We’re delighted to continue to represent Discount Games Inc as sponsor of our show. They are helping bring FTN to you. Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
New Blood Angels models hit the website for preorder today and man oh man.. I am excited. Games Workshop sent us the new models to review and paint up. Wow. So much fun and basically auto includes for Blood Angel players. We review the Sanguinary Guard and the Sanguinor models. Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something! In part 2 of the show we talk about some big changes in the Magic the Gathering world and how it might apply to our Warhammer competitive scene. I know these are not 1 to 1 comparable things but it does help to keep an eye on the other side of the fence. They have a very mature scene over there. We go down a bit of a rabbit hole but these are the types of conversations I love to have with my buddies. We’re delighted to continue to represent Discount Games Inc as sponsor of our show. FTN Episode 516 – NEW Kill Team Review! – and How To Netlist
Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
Games Workshop was nice enough to send us a copy of the new Kill Team rules and we give our first impressions of the game and some of the cool new changes. In the second part of the show we talk about how to Netlist.. Nothing wrong with borrowing someone else’s ideas sometimes. We also started a Patreon for the FTN show. This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things. If it is anywhere within your ability to us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here. The new Kill Team is extremely fun and a cool way to get play a fully immersive game in a short amount of time. Each model, even a basic trooper in 40k, will feel like a hero. Tons of wounds, tons of potential and tons of fun. The game is more streamlined and has a PvE mode that seems like a ton of fun to play. I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something! In the second part of the show Tanya asks ‘how do I make a netlist work?’ This is an interesting question and it is not as straightforward as you may think. Too many players take too much for granted and when the situation doesn’t line up exactly then the wheels come off. We sort of highlight these concerns so you can watch out for them. FTN Episode 515 – Will Blood Angels Dominate the Meta? Liberator Assault Group
Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
Wondering what the best Blood Angel detachment is? Wonder no more. We run down the comparables and focus a little bit on the Liberator Assault Group from the Blood Angel Codex. It’s good and will likely but what current BA players try while they figure out the nuances of the other two detachments. We also started a Patreon for the FTN show. This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things. If it is anywhere within your ability to us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here. I tried out the Liberator Assault Group this past weekend using Dante, Mephiston, The Sanguinor, Lemartes and a lot of standard red marines. Including some Blade Guard. It did really well and should be a powerful list right out of the gate for BA players. I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something! The Plus 1 Attack and Plus 2 Strength combined with some unit abilities are pretty amazing. I wasn’t sure about the Blade Guard at firs but I honestly liked how they performed when accompanied by a Lieutenant. In the back half of the show we gush over the new Skaven models. Age of Sigmar continues to knock it out of the park with release after release. What do you think of the new minis? We’re delighted to continue to represent Discount Games Inc as sponsor of our show. FTN Episode 514 – What Is The Best Army List In the Land (this past weekend)?
Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
We kick off the show talking about what lists did the best at the NoVA Open this past weekend. Chaos Space Marines are on the rise but what else? Is the good stuff from earlier in the month still winning? In the back half of the show we complain a little about Blood Angels and Dark Angels. We also started a Patreon for the FTN show. This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things. If it is anywhere within your ability to us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here. Chaos Space Marine hoards won this past weekend largely with their ability to dominate the board and present some interesting problems for what people are taking in lists now-a-days. Are they now the top dogs or was it just the right place right time situation? I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something! Generals aren’t resting on old tech to crack new problems – that’s for sure. This is one of the best things about a fairly balanced living breathing meta. People get to try to attack it and that’s fun and fresh. In the back half of the show Paul kicks it off with a slight bit of complaining and then talking about the Blood Angels. All kidding aside I don’t think it is complaining to wishlist and ‘want’ things from something you care about. What do you think? FTN Episode 513 – NEW BLOOD ANGELS CODEX REVIEW! It’s here!
Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
Oh happy day! We got our hands on the new Blood Angels Codex and it’s amazing. We jump out of the gate talking briefly about the not so great and then dive into the sweet sweet goodness that is the rest of the book. It’s different but is it more powerful? Is it the most powerful we’ve ever been? Hey folks, Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned. If it is anywhere within your ability to us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here. I am loving the new Blood Angels book. There are three compelling detachments where you can make a case for most of your collection (the part of your collection that survived the cuts). I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something! The Sanguinary Guard are going to make their way back on to the table top for sure. Different weapon options but the same battlefield role and they absolutely do it better than they used to with a 4+ invulnerable save. The Red, Black and the Gold are ways you can sort of define the detachments in your head. Mephiston is back and in full glory almost back to the way he was in 5th edition. BA fans should ultimately love this book but it doesn’t come without some suffering. Sort of like the BA are used to, ha! Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
We run down the heavy hitting characters from the Imperial Agents book. In the middle of the show Paul is ed by a special guest to talk about Warcry. After that we’re back to talking 40k and close out the show talking about the Imperial Assassins and our initial thoughts on the Blood Angel models on the Warhammer Community site. The link is right here. Following the show from last week we come back to the Imperial Agents main characters – the Inquisitors and the Assassins. A couple of these will be absolute mainstays in army lists. I think the Eversor is a particular stand out but we try to give them all their due in this episode. I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something! In the middle of the show my good buddy Tim s us to talk about a ion of his – Warcry. If you like the Age of Sigmar setting and looking to ‘toe into it’ this is a good way to do it. Lots of dynamic play, not a lot of models, and the games go pretty quick. In the half we talk about our time at Gen Con. Enjoy! Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
Allies are a tricky subject for a lot of players – this new book will break the doors open on what is possible for Imperial Forces but also brings a whole new Imperial dimension in and of itself. There is some really nice stuff in there. There are overlapping rules that incentivize you to take the detachment and the corresponding units assigned to it but there are also very powerful abilities on the units themselves. We talk about the tricks and Stratagems available to each Detachment and the Detachment special rule. I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something! Red says his favorite is the Imperialis Fleet. I think my favorite is the Purgation Force. This codex borrows from some other factions to ‘hang it all together’ and seems like a nice way to include these models in your collection even if you don’t want to flesh out a full 2000 point force. FTN Episode 507 – Unpacking the 40k Changes and NEW AGE OF SIGMAR!
Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
We open the show talking about the impact of the new 40k changes this week – Are we really in a 10.5 environment? In part 2 of the show we dive into the Age of Sigmar factions and how Spearhead works. Hey folks, Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The game is changed significantly and a lot of folks out there are signaling they think this is almost a revised edition. What do you think? In part 2 of the show we discuss the new Age of Sigmar. Games Workshop was nice enough to send up copies of the faction rules and game rules, complementary #adwip #aos. There is a LOT to unpack but it all looks incredibly fun. Tons of quality of life improvements and it seems like the factions have a real feel to them you would expect going all the way to the root and seeds of every single model and unit. Amazing. FTN Episode 506 – New Pariah Nexus Missions!
Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
The game is about to open up all over again. We crack open the new Pariah Nexus mission deck and discuss some of the new and biggest changes. I’m just curious. These missions, both primary and secondaries, seem real sharp to us. It seems almost like the next evolution of what can be done with missions. Its not just about standing in someplace on the battle field or removing a unit. It feels similar to the current mission set – where lots of armies can stay in contention. Playing these missions might be a little bit of an adjustment to army lists. Some of the new fixed objectives, if you choose to take them, are going to be a slobber knocker for some current list templates. FTN Episode 504 – Chaos Space Marines Review – Get Ready for Wins
Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
Chaos Space Marines go up for pre-order today and this will make a lot of fans extremely happy. This codex has something for everyone and delivers power no matter how you want to use your collection. Just like their loyalist cousins this book has a TON of detachments that look kinda like the legions you may know and love if you squint just right. The format makes it very clear that you are now meant to use the models and units however you want and not be shackled by a mere color scheme. I love this aspect of this edition. Do you love Iron Warriors but want to play them like Word Bearers? Go for it. The Sneaky and Tough detachments in this book are instant go-tos for me. Each one of these are packed with tricks and stuff that just ‘works’ right now in 40k. Love it! We’re delighted to continue to represent Discount Games Inc as sponsor of our show. FTN Episode 503 – It’s About Orking Time
Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
The Orks are back and will be an absolute staple of the table. From the most casual to the most competitive, this book has you covered. We talk a little about our favorite detachments but every where you look in this Codex there is something fun and powerful to play. Custodes… They might need some help. The link is right here. Wow. The Waaagh is gonna be super strong again. A detachment can do it TWICE. It only effects a handful of units but it is exactly the units you want it on so is that really a drawback? I don’t think so. Nobs and Meganobs can be beefed up with some amazing character It will be hard what to choose to stick with them. Gaz might be incredibly popular as well but it is kind of cool to say that he doesn’t seem like an auto include. What that says to me is that the replayabilty of this book for the list brewmaster is off the charts. The Dreob is a favorite way to play with a lot of Warbosses. This is also back in a big way. If you like big pressure lists it might be a toss up between this one and the Beast Snaggas. Ork generals have TONS of options. We didn’t mention this in the show but Defkoptas can dish out a major amount of Mortal Wounds. Watch out! We’re delighted to continue to represent Discount Games Inc as sponsor of our show. Episodio en Forge the Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast
A shorter episode this week. We talk about the Gladiator Variants and what is happening out there with the Space Marine meta at the moment. There are some big changes here and you know people don’t like a lot of change right? Crisis Suits get an overhaul but they do get some cool new rules. Are more rules what is needed to offset the weapon options that used to appear in units? That utility is gone but not forgotten. Tau players will need to find it in other areas. They just might be able to though… The close combat might of the Tau is gonna be… well, it’s gonna be possible but I’m not sure how mighty it is yet. One thing we do know for sure is that the Tau will be able to push a LOT of models to the middle of the table before the game even starts for real for not a lot of points. A ton of the game is played in the first couple of rounds and the Tau kind of have some tricks to totally lock the mid board objectives down while potentially threatening the entire table. We also talk about the new Kroot Hunting Pack. These models are amazing. This box will certainly sell out so make sure and get the pre-orders in ASAP.
