This week we’re talking about our experience with fad diets. Between the both of us, we’ve pretty much covered them all. While physical health isn’t the main topic of our podcast, it is something that we’re currently dealing with. We both started “dieting” when we were in junior high and boy do we have some stories. They weren’t the best experiences for us and we’re sure that others can relate. We, along with others, have dealt with the pressures and the stigma of what it means to be “fit” or “thin” or the perfect weight. We talk about how there’s so much shame at a young age regarding what we should look like. From being exposed to the awareness of weight at a young age to dealing with family who’ve never (seemingly) struggled with weight, we get into it.. While we aren’t licensed professionals, we do provide for each other as well as others a sounding board. It’s important to be able to open up to someone that you trust and who can provide some . There’s definitely something to be said about experience and we for sure have quite a bit of it when it comes to diet trial and error. We talk about how we both grew up with very different relationships with food. From scarcity to abundance, we talk about how these factors affected how we view food today. We recognize how our past diets and experiences weren’t for ourselves. We talk about our 2 biggest diets, the HCG Diet and Weight Watchers. Two very different diets that we went all in and saw results until we halted dead in our tracks and gained the weight back and then some. We talk about how we want to become healthier versions of ourselves and we’re not attaching a number to what that feels like. And those healthier versions look differently for everyone else. We want to ensure that we’re making better choices and we want to feel better. This is for us. We aren’t doing it for anyone else. What’s the point if it’s not for ourselves, if we can’t enjoy it? We aren’t perfect. We aren’t expecting anyone to be perfect, but we’ve got to be okay with that. We aren’t striving for perfection. We are striving for sustainability.
