The law is like a lamp or light that shows us the way and the well. It is in the light of the law that we know sin. Just as a father teaches his children the difference between good and evil, the law makes us aware of the good and bad of our actions. Although without the law, man is more or less able to distinguish between good and evil and has a limited knowledge of God, much of our knowledge of good and evil comes from the teachings of the law. But what is important to understand about the law is that the law does not save us. So we need a Saviour, and Jesus is the Saviour and the promised Messiah.
