The greatest way to understand and know the Lord Jesus is to study His prayer life. In John 17:15-16, Christ is praying for those who are in the strength of life who get discouraged about a matter, and think, "I want out of here. I know I will go to heaven and be with the Lord. I would just like to go on." Our Lord Jesus would not pray for that because we need laborers for the Lord's work. He is praying for God the Father to keep us from the evil so that we can minister to others around us.

The moment you come to trust Christ as your Saviour; you are as safe in Him as you would be if you were already standing in the presence of God in heaven. Judas Iscariot kissed the door to heaven yet went to hell because he never trusted Christ for his soul's salvation. Ask the Holy Spirit to prove to you that you are one of God's children and heaven is your home. Heaven or hell rest upon whether or not we truly know the Lord Jesus.

The blessings God has for us are not all stored up in heaven. God wants us to know Him while we are here on this earth. God the Son is praying for us! Between the offenses of our sinful hearts and our holy God stands the sinless and perfect Son of God. Jesus Christ is praying that God the Father will keep us from evil and enable us to be faithful witnesses. The greatest thing we have in a local church is not its meetings or what it does to serve the community. The greatest thing is that our Saviour is praying for us!
